SELFREPCOAT
- Start of the project : 01-07-13
- End of project : 31-12-15
The main objective of the project was to develop an active protective coating for metals (aluminium and steel) against corrosion by synthesising three types of agents, namely nano-reservoirs with inhibitors, nanocapsules with inhibitors and microcapsules for polymer repair, incorporating them into its coatings and understanding their operating and synergistic mechanisms.
The approach is complementary to that discussed in Clearzinc. Halloysite-type tanks have been developed by Materia Nova. Similarly, the combination of reservoirs has been considered to couple the effects of different inhibitors. These reservoirs have been incorporated into different organic matrices (epoxy and polyurethane) and have given very promising results in terms of improved barrier properties, wet adhesion and self-healing potential.
This project has increased the centre's expertise in the development of new nanometric pigments. Materia Nova was thus invited to participate in a European H2020 project to enhance this expertise.
Objectives and missions of Materia Nova
Within the consortium, Materia Nova will develop nano-reservoirs based on the incorporation of corrosion inhibitors into nano-clay that will release the inhibitors by ion exchange when the paint film is damaged.
