FunBioMat
The aim of the FUNBIOMAT project is to develop novel functionalization methods for the optimal distribution of cellulose nanofibers (CNF) in biopolyesters to significantly improve the thermomechanical properties, barrier functions and biodegradability of these materials.
The project is part of the Industrielle Gemeinschaftsforschung (IGF) program, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection.
Our Role in FUNBIOMAT
As a key partner, Materia Nova brings its expertise in:
- Developing nanocellulose-based masterbatches (MB) for efficient integration and dispersion into biopolymers such as PLA and PHA.
- Producing films tailored for barrier applications, leveraging our advanced knowledge of polymer processing.
Collaborative Partners
The FUNBIOMAT project unites renowned institutions with complementary expertise:
- Fraunhofer IVV: Coatings, films, demonstrator production, and recyclability analysis
- Fraunhofer UMSICHT: Degradation testing and life cycle assessment
- Celabor srl: Expertise in additional material development and characterization
Join the Innovation
Companies are welcome to join the user committee and take part in the project’s developments. The kickoff meeting is scheduled for January 21, 2025, in Freising, Germany.
