CleanAirBouw
START : 01/07/2024
END : 30/06/2028
Indoor air quality (IAQ), particularly in terms of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), is often worse than outdoor air quality. Detecting and eliminating this indoor pollution is therefore a public health issue for the cross-border population.
Thanks to the complementary cross-border skills of the partners, the CleanAirBouw project aims to develop new, effective systems for treating indoor air in buildings, to develop air quality monitoring systems and to provide scientific support to help establish standards in France and Belgium. Prototypes of innovative treatments for pollutants produced by the combustion of biomass (wood) will also be developed.
As part of the project, the issue of IAQ will be raised among the general public, students and local authorities, particularly through schools. As for building professionals, training courses will be offered to help them choose more sustainable techniques.
MISSION OF MATERIA NOVA :
Materia Nova will be responsible for optimising the sensitive layers of the sensors for monitoring indoor air pollutants such as formaldehyde, VOCs and CO. In collaboration with ULCO, Materia Nova will also be involved in the functional and structural characterisation of the sensors and will be responsible for adapting and optimising hybrid sol-gel coatings and paint for encapsulating active micro-organisms/enzymes developed in collaboration with partner UMONS for the degradation of formaldehyde and VOC pollutants (Toluene, Benzene, etc.).
