  • End of project : 31/12/2022

The ATHENS project studies different assembly techniques in order to promote the use of organic matrix composites filled with natural fibers. The use of these reinforced plastics allows manufacturers in the transportation sector to build structures that are light, rigid and strong. This project is part of an approach to minimize the weight of vehicles and maximize the payload (freight, passenger transport, ...) to significantly reduce the ecological footprint of transport.

The project focuses on the development of innovative bonding strategies through the study and development of adhesive surfaces and compositions and the design of composites based on short plant fibers. Particular emphasis is placed on the optimization of laser welding conditions for these types of materials.

Objectives and missions of Materia Nova

Within the consortium, Materia Nova focuses more specifically on the study of the formation, structure and characterization of interphases in bonded polymer composite systems, as well as on the development of adhesive polymer compositions for joining natural fiber-filled organic matrix composites.

The consortium

The three associated partners: Sirris, ValBiom, and Pôle Automobiles Hauts-de-France.
